One of the classic, unspoiled, and peaceful trekking, Manaslu Circuit Trek is a less traversed but highly praised trekking destination in Nepal. The vertical ridges above Budi Gandaki Gorge and strenuous trekking route make it a challenging grade trek. But, those experienced trekkers who complete Manaslu Circuit Trek only know the essence of being on a solitary landscape enriched with natural scenery, mountains, spotless Bhutia lifestyle and tradition, and much more adventure.

The 160 kilometres of remote terrain of the Manaslu Circuit trek route sits in the heart of western Nepal. It encircles the 8th highest mountain, Mt. Manaslu, at 8,163 metres. Moreover, Annapurna to its west and Ganesh Himal range on its east face garnishes the majestic landscape.

Manaslu Circuit Trek instead of Annapurna and Everest region trekking

There comes a question of "Why Manaslu Circuit Trek" when you have options for comfortable Annapurna Circuit trek and Everest Base Camp trek.

First, the Manaslu Circuit trek is ideal for those who wish for solitary trekking routes filled with magnificent natural aesthetics but untouched by skyrocketed commercialization. The spotless cultures, religions, and traditions of people practising Buddhism and Hinduism captivate every trekker's soul. On top, the comely gestures for trekkers by Nuri, the natives, melts your heart.

Second, the less traversed routes in Manaslu Circuit are timeless identities. They're still intact and fresh as they were in 1992 when the first group of Manaslu Circuit trekkers explored them.

Moreover, after completing the Manaslu Circuit trek anticlockwise and descending from Larke La Pass, trekkers prefer extending the trip to the Tsum valley trek. Most trekkers also visit places like Mu Gumna, Rachem Gompa, Namrung, and Lho. Some trekkers, however, prefer Tsum Valley with Manaslu Circuit Trek for 21 days for a wholesome Manaslu experience. Please see our pages for more details about things to know before trekking around Manaslu Circuit.

Good to Know

Accommodation and meals in Manaslu Circuit Trek

Manaslu Circuit Trek is in the Himalayan belt with a difficult geographical situation. Despite that, you can find several teahouses on this trek route.

Since the region doesn't have a good infrastructure, you will only find typical Nepali food. Local people are the owners of the teahouses. So they may not have the experience to make international cuisines. You will have an opportunity to savour local cuisine, which has cultural significance.

Typical Nepali food, i.e., Daal, Bhat, and Tarkari, will give you the energy to walk this route. You would need many carbohydrates and proteins to step up the hill and down. So, you can also try the famous 'Gundruk' and 'Dhindo,' which is healthy and energy-giving food.

Occasionally the teahouses in Manaslu Circuit trek route hire chefs from other areas. So, if you go around that time, you can have different foods than typical Nepali food and 'gundruk dhido.'
Teahouses offer food cuisines like Tibetan, Indian, and a few international cuisines. You should try some butter tea that can keep you healthy as you get up in the cold and altitude.

One important thing about food is that it is more expensive than at lower altitudes. Since the transportation facilities aren't excellent, porters and animals carry the essential items to the altitude.

Travel Insurance in Manaslu Circuit Trek

Travel insurance is a crucial document that covers the unexpected incidents that can happen while you trek in Nepal, especially at high altitudes.

Travelling isn't always safe. You don't know what will happen on the way. Manaslu Circuit Trek route is one of the challenging trekking routes as it is in the remote Himalayan region.

If you are trekking on this route, you shouldn't forget the travel insurance document. You never know what can happen in the isolated Himalayan belt. This particular document will cover medical and other natural disaster events. At such times, you need helicopter evacuation, and helicopter rescue comes in handy. But the good part of travel insurance is that you'll save thousands of dollars for emergency rescue.

If your health status worsens during the trek, it will cover your necessary travel expenditures. They can be medical treatment, trip cancellations, and helicopter evacuation costs. Trust me, and you can need these when you are in a life-threatening situation on this trek.

Travel insurance will save your bank balance. It is crucial to solving some trivial to huge health safety issues that occur while you are travelling.

Altitude Sickness in Manaslu Trek

Manaslu Circuit Trek includes Manaslu Base camp and Larke la pass. Manaslu Base camp is at the elevation of 4800m, and Larke La Pass is at around 5106 m.

You might have altitude sickness when you are in a region that is more than 2500m above sea level. Altitude sickness has common symptoms but can be extremely deadly if you don't care enough.

The common symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness include, but are not limited to, headaches, dizziness, tiredness, shortness of breath, and vomiting. To dodge these symptoms, adequate acclimatisation and staying hydrated are vital options. Butter tea which tea houses on the route offer, can help you with altitude sickness. But alcohol and caffeine don't help if you are wondering about it.

Guides must have basic first aid knowledge as anything can happen on the trek. They must have a first aid kit with enough medicines with them.

Manaslu Circuit Trek is in the isolated landscape in central west Nepal. You may find a problematic geographical region there. Also, since it has many restricted areas between the routes, you need a licence holder guide or porter.

  • The cost of the Manaslu Circuit trek averages around $1000-$1200 (approximately). The expenditure will expand as per the facilities that you prefer.

The cost of food and lodging will increase as you go up in the higher elevation of this trek route.

Off-season trek is more expensive than on-season trek. As in off-season, the higher altitude faces more difficulties transporting the necessary items to provide the trekkers, guides, porters, and other people.

  • The distance might vary with the itinerary, but the whole span covered is around 110 miles (177km). The days it takes to cover the entire trek route are different, according to the trekking company.

    Annapurna circuit

I did the Annapurna circuit for 14 days with Dream heaven adventure. The boss suman organized everything for me. Also picking me up from the aiport and giving me accomodation. The tour was easy as the guide (Gyan) could speak good english and he knew the circuit well. Other than few rainfalls on the way the trek was successfully done. I recommend it !

    Manaslu/Tsum Valley - Outstanding

Thanks to Suman, Hari and Gyan I experienced yet another wonderful trek in Nepal.

Gyan is an excellent guide and knows the nature and the customs of the mountains inside-out. Thanks to him I got to see and understand many things I otherwise wouldn't have noticed or appreciated. It's thanks also to his sharp eyes we got to see the mongoose, blue sheep, Langurs, and a host of other animals. Likewise for the plants: cinnamon, tobacco, marijuana, jasmins,.. and countless other domestic plants I'd have missed. He also took the initiative of kindly kicking me out of bed to appreciate the beautiful sunrise + full moon. Left to my own devices, I'd have missed it. Apart from being an encyclopedic source of information, Gyan is a very easy going and gregarious person and spending time with Gyan is a pleasure.

Back at the office Hari and Suman were very efficient and reliable and smoothened out all the hick-ups that could otherwise have caused difficulties (blocked credit card on arrival, over-booked hotel and a few other unexpected surprises).

I have no problem recommending DHA to anyone. The company is very serious and very professional, easy to work with and a pleasure to trek with.

    Outstanding Nepal Trekking Experience!

Recently I used Dream Heaven Adventure Pvt. Ltd. as my outfitter for my Around Manaslu/Tsum Valley Trek. They did an outstanding job of organizing, planning and making my trek the amazing experience I had hoped it would be! They did a tremendous job of selecting my guide and porter. So many other clients with other trekking companies were complaining about their guide/porter being irresponsible, not being able to communicate in English or just generally incompetent.

I had no problems with my guide and porter, as they selected friendly and clean guest houses that served delicious food and also made sure that I made it safely to each village on the 26-day trek. Every night we discussed the following day's itinerary and they were flexible enough to change the plan on the fly whenever necessary. I thought the price was more than fair, especially considering the high quality of service I received from the moment I arrived in Katmandu until my departure a month later. The hotel in Katmandu was outstanding, nicer than any hotel I'd stayed in during my previous 4 visits to Nepal. I would not hesitate to recommend Dream Heaven Adventure Pvt. Ltd. to any trekker and/or tourist interested in visiting Nepal!

They gave me several viable trekking options and I selected the one I wanted. Next time I come to Nepal, I will definitely be using this trekking company! Also, I cannot say enough about the two employees who were responsible for my trip, Gajendra Jung Chettri and Suman Aryal (the Managing Director). Suman picked me up at the airport at the start of the trip, met me at my hotel at the conclusion of the trek and made sure I made it to the airport on time when departing Nepal. He is highly professional and did a fantastic job of making sure this adventure trip exceeded my expectations!"
