Every year the large number of pilgrims from all different religious travel to Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar to pay their homage.

The first European to travel the region was Italian Jesuit Missionary father Ippolito Desideri. He crossed the vast inhospitable land of western Tibet in 1715 and followed the course of the Tsangpo River all the way to Lhasa.

The Mount Kailash area is the source of 4 great rivers- the Indus, the Sutlej, the Brahmapatra, and the Karnali. Tibetan scriptures peak of the four rivers that issue from the ‘world Mountain; Mt. Kailash is one of the three pilgrim sides in the area, known collectively Kangri Tsosum; the other two are Ponri Nagaden and Mansarovar.
